Developing leadership skills are most important in every aspect of your life, but especially in the industry of Network Marketing. It is no secret that average people do not make money in our industry and it is the same in the traditional business world. Developing your leadership skills will separate you from the masses. When I first started in the industry I understood how important it was to become a leader. Below you will find the notes I made 18 years ago on what I felt was the essential skills and attributes I needed to develop to become a leader!! Well you may ask how did I put this list together it was observing the leaders I was associated with at that time…..

1. Integrity
Leaders have high ethics. They are honest. They always follow through with what they said they were going to do no matter how difficult it is. If you are to gain people’s trust then it is important to learn this trait early. Some of the actual situations you can practice this behavior is taking responsibility for your own actions. Do not play the blame game when things go wrong. Leaders take personal responsibility for their team’s actions and results.

2. Passionate
Leaders are passionate. They are enthusiastic about helping people and they even have the ability to rub this energy off on their team. This is one good behavior to start when developing leadership skills.

3. Commitment

Time will other promote you or expose you as a leader. Leaders that are truly committed to attaining their goals and dreams and not letting the word try or quit in their vocabulary. Commitment is the starting and ending point of all great organizations and achievement.

4. Courageous
People are watching you when you are a leader. Develop the courage to lead by example. Show your team that you are in the trenches doing the things that you teach. It is easy to manage people, it takes courage to lead by example in all aspects of your life.

5. Goal Oriented
Leaders are very focused on the objectives that need to be attained. They develop a plan and strategy to achieve the objectives. In addition, they will also need to build commitment from the team and rally them to achieve the organization’s goal. When developing leadership skills, start by looking at how goal oriented you are now. Improve upon that behavior.

6. All in

There is no such thing in succeeding in anything if you have the part time mentality. Have you ever seen part time Parenting work? All leaders understand that one needs to have the mentality that they are “All in” They need to immerse themselves in all areas of their business. Attend all events, attend all training’s, work on themselves (personal development, skill sets). Great future leaders have all made the decision and it was a defining moment in their lives to go all in with their business.

The most dangerous leadership myth is that leaders are born-that there is a genetic factor to leadership. This myth asserts that people simply either have certain charismatic qualities or not. That’s nonsense; in fact, the opposite is true. Leaders are made rather than born.
